Solid work from Ullmark for the shutout.

Game with some stakes, too.

The free game of the night on HockeyViz is Penguins at Senators, the matchup that sounds more like an environmental crime than a hockey game.

Coincidentally I've been watching and it's been v. fun tbh. Lots of good saves.

I don't recall the Avs saying "good luck"

I simulate the remaining games using the abilities of the likely players, taking injuries and trades into account. The measurements of the abilities of the players includes games from before this season.

He doesn't need to take a leap, he's already comfortably better than what many (most?) teams are rolling out on their third pairs most nights. Travis Hamonic has already played 18 games for Detroit just to pick a name out of a hat.

Playoff chances over the past fortnight.

Don't expect any certainty in the Atlantic any time soon.

Having his best season

This season alone I have him as one of the stronger skaters for getting the puck out of their own zone; 7% faster. I don't know man.

I have tried repeatedly to explain the Kelly Thinks He Stinks principles to my models, as you know. You remember that one time, with the guy from the fire department who said that "they weren't technically explosions".

I wonder what his favourite skyrim build is. I like a sneaky archer myself.

Poor bastards in the nice parts of town sharing one dick between three, four guys; little penis-a-terre postage stamps in converted "lofts", just trying to scrape a dick together.

They might, and it is a mistake to try to chase every reader of this type; and a much more severe mistake to imagine that you should. Every created object should have an audience in mind, which includes among other things how much work you can reasonably expect a reader to do.

If Bryson was, in fact, of that calibre, then how did Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen allow only 15 goals on the 12.3xG that the Sabres allowed in the 302 minutes of 5v5 they played together in that season? Are we supposed to imagine that Bryson's xG-increasing boneheaded miscues are localized to Comrie?

If young folks would just go for starter dicks, without fancy balls and whistles, like we did back in my day,

You can mark me down as "unconvinced".

Goaltending this season. Jordan Binnington is quickly approaching "not-NHL-calibre" if he hasn't already.
December 18, 2025 at 9:38 PM
I don't know anything about Bryson specifically but shots in the NHL are rare enough that you would expect most teams to have a few players every year to have noticeable variations in G/xG results, just from randomness alone.

I don't have as much resolution on that kind of thing as I'd like, but not nothing - a play like that would usually be listed as a giveaway, and I include that in my model (unsurprisingly such chances are considerably more dangerous)

What interests you about the last month, versus earlier?
December 18, 2025 at 8:19 PM
I don't think there should be any expectation of a particular speed; I only think that the reward should match the effort by the reader. If you make something that's richly detailed enough you should be able to get something new even after hundreds of readings. Some folks might never "get" it.

I'm very fond of both types. It's not that either one is illegitimate, only that each type has its own ways of going wrong, and this particular vice just annoys the shit out of me.
December 18, 2025 at 8:16 PM
That pattern, of rare but serious mistakes with common smaller strengths, is the way to get a bad rep with humans generally.
December 18, 2025 at 8:07 PM
Two and a half thousand minutes of 5v5 with the Flyers, with Ristolainen as his primary partner, backed up by largely shoddy goaltending, and people are unhappy with the defence? Or is it something else?
