With numbers this bad, you'd expect to see the stock price drop but it isn't. That's not a sign of a strong economy, it's a sign of a "fixed" one.

Maybe this makes all the sense in the world from a business perspective but the timing is ...

Fortunately, we now have a competitor in my region. They're about to lose a lot of business here.

Trump's moves on Greenland are extremely dangerous for Canada. If NATO invokes Article 5, then Canada will essentially be at war with the US and America can use that to justify a preemptive invasion.

Just a reminder that Pierre Poilievre also threatened to politicize our central bank, firing the chair/governor for similar reasons to Trump wanting to fire Powell. It's the one position that must be apolitical to avoid the taint of currency/market manipulation.

The 'Sell America' market returns after DOJ's criminal probe of the Fed spooks investors
The U.S. dollar fell and market barometers for interest rates rose, both trends that run directly counter to the Trump administration’s affordability push.

Where are all the so-called "good" billionaires in this hour of need? Where is the money to save PBS and Sesame Street? Where is the money to buy CNN and MSNBC so they can be maintained as objective news sources? Where are the donations for progressive and Dem candidates to counter MAGA fascists?

A lot of Canadians want us to cut TFWs and foreign students and reduce immigration. Why not do the opposite - cut immigration and instead achieve immigration targets entirely through TFW and student programs? People with skills, experience, and the right work ethic? Something to consider.

On the one hand, Marty Supreme looks like an interesting piece of entertainment - the kind of thing I'd enjoy. On the other, if going to see this movie in any ways enriches Kevin O'Leary or boosts his already overinflated ego, I have no choice but to avoid it. Horrible casting choice.

Technical question about those websites where cookie warnings/approvals pop up every single time - do they not see the cookie from the previous visit? Is it a new cookie every time? Does it not read my browser settings to accept cookies? Or is this just a "cover our ass" thing by websites?

I'm sure most BCers would prefer a bottom slogan of "Sudden Stops." Seriously Alberta, if you miss your turnoff then pull over and wait for a gap or drive to the next turnoff. Also, our speed limits do apply to trucks. Even lifted ones with broken turn signals.

@davidebybc.bsky.social Do NOT run a tariff ad without clearing it with the PM or other provinces. Our goal should be to fly below the radar until the economy crashes or Congress either wakes up or goes blue. There's nothing to be gained poking the demented old man. We can't stand on our own yet.

A long time ago, Canada had stakes in its biggest companies - Petro Canada, Air Canada, CN, de Havilland, the Saskatchewan Wheat Board, etc. Provincial governments owned utilities and telecoms.

One question that's been bugging me is who the hell starts a major renovation and construction project in mid-October? I know they'll tent the area at some point, but that's for finishing work. It's a lot tougher working through a cold, wet winter.

Watching all the furor over Trump's white house demolitions reminds me that 24 Sussex needs to be torn down and replaced 20 years ago - but governments have passed on doing what's necessary because they didn't want to be accused of wasting taxpayer money on a mansion.

This is the problem with media today - Noem's TSA video IS political, it's not just airports "saying it's political." This isn't an "alleged" situation. It is very clearly what it is - so call it that way.

Can anyone explain why the market hasn't tanked due to Trump, his tariffs and our declining confidence in the state of the world?

I assume it has something to do with monopolies, stock buybacks, retail investors outnumbered by funds and institutional investors that can afford to hold, etc.

There are a lot of causes for Canada's housing crisis - high immigration, demographics, urbanization and people moving to cities, foreign buyers, money laundering, speculation, zoning, high construction financing costs, shortages of certain trades, the overall high cost of building, etc.

Typical Canadian conservative right now: "We want the federal government to invest in pipelines, stop immigration, meet our NATO commitments, protect the north, hire more doctors, build more housing, keep criminals in jail, force addicts into mandatory treatment AND we want to pay lower taxes!"

Just so everybody is clear, Trump and company WANT people to protest ICE. And they will absolutely make sure any protest escalates by provoking protesters or seeding their own agents into the mix to start fires and loot so they can justify a permanent presence of military on the streets.

Every day it becomes more clear that MAGA is just a way for mediocre white men to recover the power they've lost to talented minorities and women. Instead of finding a place in the progressive, modern world, they're instead turning back the clock to a time when they top of the food chain.

This is what I'm talking about. While I hate arguing with conservatives online, we have to challenge their bullshit use of the word "they" - there is no fucking "they" who shot Kirk or Trump. One Groyper acting alone does not equal every democrat and progressive in America. There's no plot here.
