In 1994 formerly solid-red California turned blue in backlash to Gov. Pete Wilson’s openly racist Prop. 187, with Latino-Californians moving into the Democratic Party for a generation.
In 2025 there seems to be a similar backlash bubbling up to the surface as multiple racial groups are targeted.
