The reckless assaults on DEI are not only morally wrong, they will irreversibly undercut science, technology, healthcare, and our economy. “Our country is quite literally hobbling ourselves by canceling these programs” - Dr. Bhalla @needhibhalla.bsky.social

I've been waiting for this.

Independent autopsy of Renee Good is in. It's strong evidence against Agent Ross, given what it means about the second or third shot through the left-side window.

It's the second and third shots that make the easiest criminal case of a willful killing.
Independent autopsy in ICE shooting death of Renee Good released by law firm in civil investigation
The results of an independent autopsy for Renee Good have been released as part of a law firm's civil investigation, two weeks after she was shot and killed by a federal agent in Minneapolis.

this was disappointing but not surprising to read and I hate that I have to repeat: there is NO conflict between pursuing diversity, equity and inclusion and hiring people based on merit.
“The idea behind DEI was very simple, that the composition of institutions should reflect the public they serve...But I think the left took it too far."

I'd note how status threat and reaction often drives this feeling: "the left took it too far," and it serves to justify wrecking.
Which of Trump’s upheavals in U.S. science are likely to stick?

That’s what Donald Trump is doing - destroying the lives of children.

(4) If you are arrested, you simply must do the following:
- Identify yourself
- Prove or attest to your citizenship
- Invoke your 5th Amendment rights and demand your lawyer
- Literally do not say a single thing besides the above. Do not talk shit, do not mouth off. There's time for that yet.

(2) Now even more than ever, we need to use the buddy system. Give them your name, trusted contacts' phone/Signal, and attorney's info, if possible. If one person is doing closer observation or intervention, the other needs to hang back. That way, if someone is arrested, you can get them help.

(1) Get set up with an attorney before you go out, if at all possible. ICE has started asking if people they arrest have an attorney and, if they say no, denying access to the lawyers doing ad hoc jail support. Get a name and phone number. Memorize both of possible, write their number on your arm

To mark the occasion, I took a look back at what I was thinking and writing about a year ago. The most surprising takeaway is how predictable this last year we have lived through was from the outset.

I don’t feel we talk about this enough, but the amount of PTSD we’re all experiencing as a result of Donald Trump is off the charts.

Basically we’ve been living in trauma since 2016. Let that sink in - a decade of chaos. 😕
