This is a total farce. No, #Myanmar has not "made notable progress in governance and stability." Nor is it safe to send Myanmar citizens back to their home country where they face likely detention, intimidation, and even torture. DHS has abdicated its moral duty here. www.uscis.gov/newsroom/new...

Enjoyed the opportunity to share some reflections from the recent Manila Dialogue yesterday @csis.org along with Brian Harding, Sr. Advisor at the U.S.-Philippines Society. The event was co-hosted by USPHS and moderated by Harrison Prétat of CSIS’ Asia Maritime Transparency Initiative.

Day 2 of the Manila Dialogue on the South China Sea starts off with a bracing recap of recent Chinese coercive actions in the West Philippines Sea by Commodore Jay Tarriela, Commander of the Philippines Coast Guard, which Prof. Hu Bo dismisses as “fake news.” #SouthChinaSea

Ray Powell says increase in collisions in the South China Sea is not due to FONOPs but “the simple amount of paramilitary capability brought by one country…China” to the SCS & its efforts to change the status quo.

Former SC Justice Antonio Carpio says the legal record is quite clear: no state can assert historical rights to fishing grounds in the high seas. States that have signed UNCLOS are bound by it. Therefore we should stop talking about ‘historic rights.’

@becstrating.bsky.social kicks things off on the first panel of the 2nd Manila Dialogue on the #SouthChinaSea handing the mic to @billhayton.bsky.social for a rousing look at the historical record. Unsurprisingly, Dr. Wu Sichun did not agree with the contents of Dr. Hayton’s presentation.

Had this article been written prior to 2025, it would have more resonance, but the Trump administration has made clear it doesn't give a hoot about democracy or human rights. Thus Dili's accession to ASEAN doesn't enhance US democratic interests whatsoever. foreignpolicy.com/2025/10/16/t...

Arguably one of DC’s most influential think tanks, where partisanship remains refreshingly absent and the primates do the heavy lifting.

Encouraging to see that Trump’s nominee for Ambassador to Thailand has not deviated from @statedept.govmirrors.com’s position on #Myanmar’s elections despite recent easing of US sanctions & murmurs of changes in US policy on 🇲🇲 critical minerals:

US-China rivalry is not the right lens with which to view this conflict. Thailand & Cambodia have long-running disputes along their shared border, and the US & China have very little to do with it, if anything.
