(Mem. detail recipe for Alessandra) It is glorious - a stew without the stewing! - chuck the tofu at a wok & fling on sauce (toms, onion, vegan yoghurt, paprika, GARLIC) like you would a Thai curry. The whole 'launch a new discipline' bit hilariously - actually no, rather poignantly - betrays the conversation he had with ChatGPT in full sycophant mode where it convinced him he was a genius. A different roll of the random matrices and he'd be trumpeting his new perpetual motion machine.

Oh my word. And it really is bespoke for me!

Tragically, I already had plans to make tofu paprikahendl tonight (don't judge me, just another Saturday night in Whitby!) so this will be hilariously perfect evening viewing.

Thank you, you're amazing!

This looks absolutely mouthwatering.

Le sigh, how I wish I could still travel.

Of all the great many reasons to love @realgdt.bsky.social most of all I admire how he enthusiastically exploits the Hollywood machine to be a patron and advocate for hundreds of artists. It is moving & inspirational that he very obviously has been there himself and hasn't forgotten what it's like.

One would need to be of a particularly rash and unwise disposition to gainsay @madelinepotter.bsky.social on this.

Racists, she's thought harder on this than you, understands this better than you ever could, and is so much smarter than you it's unfair. Go home, you're embarrassing yourselves.

Quite a eureka moment. Bravo. Wow.
November 13, 2025 at 10:26 PM
yes yes yes! it's very much on the agenda to add much greater coverage over time - for exactly that reason.

a whole word companion is also 💯 on the wish list (if only because: abbreviations!) but I'm trying to get the single letters just right first

loading up a ton more hands is the priority
November 13, 2025 at 8:08 PM
Youre totally right on all points! The font is only there as a stopgap while I load up a decent dataset of hands - as soon as I can, it's history! I couldn't get deep linking to pages to work (but wanted to use a source which didn't need academic access) I shall revisit & improve! Thank you so much

80% is a strong score - some maj/min confusion almost impossible to eliminate without eg a baseline. (Hmm that's a good idea!)

Ill be beefing up the character db w more examples, especially from fringes of the time period , so fingers crossed for some dustier, less familiar majuscules especially.

There's only me would pour so much love into this then stuff up the post announcing it. Sigh.

Anyway: you are ace. Thank you.
November 12, 2025 at 10:38 PM
Thank you SO much - you're wonderful. There is some basic physics of these things that makes them invisible to one's own eye as soon one commits them. I shall change it within the next minnite :)

I'm mortified. One tries to turn off every possible autocorrect option and still...

That said, my tired eyes can't immediately find any obvious flubs on the landing page... could I impose on your patience to show me?
November 12, 2025 at 10:21 PM
I truly despair of trying to teach autocorrect the word 'palaeography'!
November 12, 2025 at 10:16 PM
Oh my gosh yes. thank you for being that person!
November 12, 2025 at 10:15 PM
And of course one tool doesn't need to do everything - BUT - you're also completely right, and it nags me too - perhaps a middle way extension might be whole word or phrase mode... which might also allow exploration of edge cases eg abbreviation, etc?

v useful feedback, thank you. Food for thought.
November 12, 2025 at 10:15 PM
You're completely right of course.

That said, part of the inspiration was my own tendency to rely too much on context & whole word-recognition - which failed me e.g. on names or (niche!) Scots dialect. So this was a decision...

Apparently there were three - the last, taken after nightfall, now lost and mon dieu how one hopes one day some shoebox in a Parisian attic...

God I love this so much. Thank you, the course goes form strength to strength.
