to avoid this, they would need to hold neutral while getting up so they do not roll. specifically, hold neutral until you see a flash and then you can start blocking to block on wakeup (then can tech or jump).

pretty unintuitive and I hope they change it because it trips up a lot of new players

if you roll on getup, you can be punished with throw or command grab 100% of the time -- can't tech the throw, can't jump to escape it, can't even use super reversal. and I suspect this person wasn't trying to roll, but you get roll if you are holding back while getting up.

I think it only works with the dash macro (L + M or map a button to dash)

good to get used to using the macro instead of double tapping directions (something I also need to work on)

it may be under the Advanced section! but I'm like 99% sure they're there

retreating guard is more situational -- I'm GM and still barely use it (I should use it more tho). push block, however, is basically mandatory if you want to stand a chance against people with solid pressure

the in-game tutorials are actually very helpful and there's sections on both mechanics too

retreating guard is done by backdashing while blocking an attack and instead of pushing the opponent away, you push yourself away. useless in the corner, but can be useful midscreen. vulnerable to low attacks, so very risky if they call you out. but it's 100% free to use.

push block uses your assist, so it needs to not be on cooldown for it to work (and it'll put the assist on cooldown, preventing you from calling assist immediately after)

so it has a resource cost, but especially at lower ranks (unlikely to bait it) the value of the pushblock is well worth it.

push block is easier to use so it's good to start with integrating that first -- you press T when blocking their attack and it will push them back. if you can time it well, they might even whiff their next attack and they'll be free for you to punish. at the very least, it can reset to neutral

not sure if intentional, but replies are disabled on your 2XKO blockstring thread. saw it come up on my 2XKO feed and wanted to mention retreating guard and push block -- they basically let you create openings in your opponent's blockstrings and it really opens things up!
