We need to counteract the ugliness we see in our time.

We are all responsible for this moment because it represents all of us.

We need to do whatever we can do to counteract that.

Even a simple act of empathy matters.

We don’t want to accept the monsters.

History Matters #291

The leaders we get are the leaders we vote for. That means a lot.

We should never forget that our politics and the people that gain power represent our times.

The monsters represent the moment we are in. And we are all part of the world that is happening in.

History (Frog 🐸) Hack #2

I started having a Lost and Found box in my classroom. Students now know where to look for their forgotten items. It really helps to have a designated place!

(Today’s I’m displaying the items to encourage students to claim them.) 3/

History Matters episode 290:

Change comes from the bottom up.

This election showed that.

What we saw in part, was Americans of all kinds who said this is our moment to speak up, we’re going to vote against it.

People were voting for and against things. 1/

The way the destruction was done is a monument to the destruction of our system of checks and balances and America’s democratic system of government.

It’s a violation of our history, our nation, our landmarks. 2/fini

The Presidential Wrecking Ball and Why it Matters

The White House is a symbol. It is not the president’s house. It is our house.

Seeing the ravage is a metaphor for this political moment. 1/

👉🏻When a government no longer feels accountable to the people in any way, democracy dies.

👉🏻The fact the protest is happening shows people are willing to show up, they want government to be accountable to them.

Why do protests matter?

1️⃣They fuel the energy of resistance.

2️⃣It shows everyone in government and outside of government that there are mass numbers of people who don’t like what’s going on. 1/

Silence allows for normalization.

We have to keep calling it out so we can prevent it from being normalized.

The Rule of Law matters:
It has to do with We the people,
No one is above the law.

There needs to be speaking out about what is lawful, what is right, holding people accountable.

If we don’t [speak out], the lawlessness is normalized. 1/

There is possibility in Continency.
We need to remember that and not feel hopeless.

We cannot surrender to this moment.

What we do matters.
We have friends from within.

Declaring your enemies as “enemies from within”--
that kind of language is blatantly dangerous, blatantly undemocratic.

Ultimately one of the things at the heart of democracy is dissent, disagreement.
There isn’t only one way to see things. 1/
