That is also a good point. For all the talk about KTPs, impact, etc how have we failed at something so basic?

This is it exactly. Maybe some university mgmt teams also made bad decisions, but they were in response to a continuous series of problematic govt policies over years.

What about comparing encyclopedia entries as a starting point? eg Britannica vs Wikipedia. Both give basic intro to idea, although somewhat different, along with some sources. Easy to read, while also showing how the interpretations can differ.

I think Monica Azzolini has done some work on sea creatures. Also Louisa Mackenzie has a book chapter on EM French sea monsters. There was also some discussion in the Sloane Letters, though I can't recall which letters specifically.
