How can a function of interaction be passive ?

No Media is King in any category, the medium is an important part of the art but its not what defines it ultimately. All interaction focused on understanding media is by its nature active and transformative. Playing, Reading, Viewing are just the media's equivalent function of interaction.

I agree with your point but i think you miss my point, even if your game only has 1 ending and 1 way to play the act of playing and more importantly the act of you perceiving the game and making up your mind about it are transformative and thus active. The same goes for every medium.

The reader cant be a passive witness because reading and more importantly constructing sense out of reading are active processes. The reader is not the protagonist sure but he is the constructer or the narrative based on the blueprint by the author. The player in a video game can be the same
