certainly not far better than *anywhere in europe* in the interwar years, definitely not better than in the uk, france, the benelux, or the scandinavian nations. suggesting that there was no bad oppression by arabs against jews suggests that if there was israeli genocide would be ok

i do have to say jay jones is strongly suggestive that platner being carried by the national environment is very possible (perhaps unfortunately, median voter probably sees talking about republican kids being shot as worse than having a nazi tattoo)

Also there were never any wounds to heal or wrongs to right with regard to the Falklands

if any part of the British raj had a majority of the people desiring to remain part of Britain, then it would indeed be a-ok for that part to remain part of Britai. of course, this wasn’t true of the raj bc actual Indians lived there which has never been the case for argentines on the Falklands

The amount of people who hate Harris so much they’re letting her negatively polarize them into handing it to Josh Shapiro is something

The other thing is that the worst aspect of Jeffries by far is that he’s a terrible communicator, which will be much less relevant concurrently with him becoming speaker bc the various dem primary candidates and eventually the nominee will become the focus of dem messaging
December 3, 2025 at 6:52 PM
Are they though? The primaries won’t start until after
December 3, 2025 at 6:45 PM
We would have won it with D+12 though (and generally I think we who have always hated Trump underestimate how much Trump I was essentially within the bounds of normal Republican governance particularly with a good economy- Trump I imo does not crack the top 5 worst U.S. presidencies)
December 3, 2025 at 5:11 PM
2018 was also a much worse senate map (like 8 tough defense seats 3 of which were basically impossible to hold) and 2020 wasn’t really a strong dem year

Southerners are a special case as a result of being ontologically evil

i don't take sides in every war in history but i would suggest it was a mistake for solano lopez to start the war and then refuse to surrender despite it obviously being lost and then conscript a bunch of child soldiers into his army
December 2, 2025 at 10:27 PM
Between Solano lopez and galtieri do you have any dictators you don’t glaze
December 2, 2025 at 8:26 PM
One hopes

Tbh Elon musk is clearly much worse than your average ceo because he is personally invested in mass death and took steps to make that happen, if Elon musk was shot I would be actively happy because he is an existential threat to democracy
December 2, 2025 at 7:06 PM
I unironically think btw that tyler robinson can cement himself as the John brown of our times if he does do that take the blame thing
December 2, 2025 at 7:04 PM
Wait I’m just clocking that this is in a thread about Nancy mace

it obviously would have been better had the Roman republic been reformed back in a more democratic direction and you can certainly blame Caesar for crushing all hope of that happening, but none of his prominent opponents were trying to do that to my knowledge (would love to hear more if I’m wrong)
December 2, 2025 at 6:49 PM
Obviously Caesar wasn’t a good person for all kinds of reasons but his takeover was a kind of authoritarianism replacing another kind of authoritarianism and I do think his authoritarianism produced a better society for more people than what the senate was doing
December 2, 2025 at 6:43 PM
I just don’t really think it was. I’m for a democracy, not a republic, and whatever democratic accountability had existed was gone by the time of the late Republic. it’s generally imo a mistake to project modern debates on authoritarianism vs democracy back onto the end of the Roman republic
December 2, 2025 at 6:40 PM
Damn looks like the state of Israel thinks that you’re right, which makes sense considering the shared affinity for taking land that doesn’t belong to you and backing it up with esoteric historical claims
