None of this made any sense until the pieces suddenly came together last nigh, as if I’d uncovered a conspiracy. Sort of. And it’s all true.

Hard not to be invested in the outcomes here. Feel same about last mission.

If consulting is meant to be one night stands, then no thank you.

The unofficial mission report: there’s a cross sector underground group of open source/digital advocates. They orchestrated getting us in. The person we thought was so incredibly helpful turned out to be a gatekeeper. We’ve been played. By people who didn’t have anywhere else to go. So we’ll help.

Indeed. People did the hard work so we could take it for granted.

Rest of the time interviewing senior stakeholders (public officials, civil servants, academia, private sector). All to gather evidence for a readiness assessment around open source and digital.
November 27, 2025 at 7:56 PM
Two days of training on government digital transformation, examples from around the world, platforms/components, digital public infrastructure, how open source fits in, product and user journeys. And then more on how to use open source, compliance, contribution, community. Exercises and workshops.

I actually haven’t bought any clothes in years. Socks and underwear aside.
November 27, 2025 at 7:40 PM
Well no. I bought those clothes at least 6 years ago. So UK.

It’s hard to say no when they’re letting me define my own role. This is how they always get me.

Thank you!

My contract is up end of year and now they want to extend me until April. Undecided.

Lots of good people and good intentions. Good ideas too. This all needs to be a service instead of short lived projects with unclear goals or measures. Luckily I’m around to shape that up for anyone that can make it work and is willing to take a bit of a risk.

Never understood the idea of networking as any different to talking to people and taking an interest.

I’m not sure about “career.” What I have is a meandering doing things with people I’ve been lucky enough to know. Built on shared purpose and passion. But mostly friendship.

Maybe the real digital transformation was the friends we made along the way? (I’ll stop doing these soon).
