The Town of Hillsborough was notified of tire and wheel cleaner in a creek flowing through the Town Cemetery.

A nearby car wash has been closed until its drain system can be addressed. The North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality has been notified.

At the start of last night's meeting, Mayor Mark Bell and commissioners Kathleen Ferguson and Robb English affirmed their oaths of office. District Court Judge Hathaway Pendergrass, a Hillsborough resident, conducted the ceremony.

The Town of Hillsborough will receive $1 million in federal funding to improve safety in its water treatment disinfection process. The project was submitted by Rep. Valerie Foushee along with 14 others for review by the U.S. House Committee on Appropriations.

All Flock Safety cameras contracted by the town have been removed.

The Hillsborough Board of Commissioners decided to terminate the town’s contract for the license plate reader cameras on Oct. 27.

Help the town fill a local food pantry for the holidays! Last year, town staff collected 417 pounds of food.

Donations will be delivered to Orange Congregations in Mission. A donation bin is available at the Town Hall Annex, 105 E. Corbin St. until Dec. 16.
