Was at Mither Tap with the Hillfort Study Group in April of 2024. The third pic was taken in the ten seconds I could actually stand upright without being blown down by gusts!!! But what a site! (And a sight...views were incredible)

Thanks to the marvellous @jodarchaeology.bsky.social for arranging

This morning's office...doing a bit on a new short film with award winning filmmaker Nicola Schafer for @notbourneyesterday.bsky.social

Talking about archaeology in a chalk stream - nothing better on a crisp sunny November morning!

Watch this space for early 2026 reveal!

Here's the other half of the pair, from a 'best guess' on the arrangement at Danesfield (1900s hotel & landscape gardens put paid to a lot of it; RAF use in the WWII period affected other aspects)
But some of the earthworks are still in good nick.

We made assumptions about contemporaneous use...

Bizarrely, a very talented painter, Simon Pressey of Oxford, decided to paint a scene inspired by this dig, and I bought it!

I suspect a lot of the gaps in actual ground -truthed or existing road ls are just joined as straight lines.
I need to check if some of the new road segments our volunteers on the Beacons of the Past project discovered thru our hi-res LiDAR ended up in here yet.
Like this corker!

Had a lovely visit to an iconic Chilterns monument today with @jonwoolcott.bsky.social , the man who's bringing us a brilliant new book in April!

In between rain deluges, we captured the impressive Vale below the Chilterns Scarp, and even managed to see and hear one of my favourite things

Excessive water usage is a killer for sensitive #chalkstreams.

Average consumption per capita in the Southeast of England is 143 litres per day.

But we can all do better. Looking at my account tho...
I'm feeling rather smug 🤣😎

Done, sir! I always support Macmillan when I can. - walked a marathon in '23

Delighted you've enjoyed the class. Sorry the anonymous nature of a lot of it means I never know when I bump into one of the 900-1100 I've had over the years!!
Always a pleasure to meet!!

This is why I'm not an artist...
The point WAS well conveyed to the students but I doubt my pictorial accompaniment had anything to do with it...

I award £5 to the charity of your choice to the first to accurately tell me what I was teaching via this image.
