Updates to the hiking goals I posted a year ago...

1. I completed the Long Trail.

2. I will start the Colorado Trail on July 23.

3. I intend to hike the Superior Hiking Trail in Minnesota in mid-September.

4. My plan to thru-hike the Appalachian Trail next year is still on track.

I did something today I couldn't have done three weeks ago. I walked 5.5 miles with a 25-lbs. pack on my back. This may not sound like much of a hike, but it was a big deal for me.

That's because I injured myself on June 3 while hiking in a nearby state park.

After much thought, I've figured out what trails I want to hike in the next three years. I admit part of me wants to say, "Gravity, you are crazy to think you can hike these trails!" At the same time, I can't wait to do each one of them.

As I stood today at the Mexican border after completing all 800 miles of the Arizona Trail, two quotes came to mind.

The world reveals itself to those who travel on foot. (Werner Herzog)

I'm pretty tired. I think I'll go home now. (Tom Hanks as Forrest Gump)

When I've been asked in the last few months, "What is your next hike?" my reply has always started with "maybe" or "probably." Today, I can finally confidently answer, "The #ArizonaTrail."

My flights and a shuttle driver are booked. I'll begin the hike on September 25.
