This story caught my eye. An old man (now deceased), sent his son a photo every morning. It was a custom between them. As a result the son knew the father (who earlier had a stroke) was ok.
For many living far from parents, this might be a lovely daily practice

Like last year's, having COP at a major oil producer whose main agenda is to sell more fossil fuels, was never going to yield benefit for the climate and for us all; instead it was always going to be about watering down the climate focus and undermining environmentalism.

Adele - one of the creative sparks of our time.
Wishing her the best as she heads into an extended and maybe permanent break from performing and music for the public. What a journey she's been on, and taken us all along on.

What prompts someone to be mean to, or say nasty things online about, a blind person trying to access services with a guide dog?
Sean Dilley's story of multiple such incidents is upsetting. Please let's be kinder to those around us, and not project our own hurts on them.

'Refused service again with my guide dog, I'm done speaking out'
Sean Dilley is inundated with abuse on social media whenever he posts about discrimination issues.

We are in an emergency. We have been for 3 decades at least. I e must act. Not tomorrow. Today.
This is the first bird extinction in mainland Europe in 500 years.

1400 birds are globally threatened with extinction.

230 are Critically Endangered.

The Slender-billed Curlew is just the latest in over 200 bird extinctions since 1500. 😢🪶🧪
well, here it is lads

after combing through some 1,400 records, it looks like the slender-billed curlew is indeed extinct and the last known photo taken in 1995 was probably at the point it slipped beneath the waves 🦉🧪

Hmm. Some push-back to my decisions to spend less time cross-posting on other platforms to focus here. This came from Mastodon.
But I'm not sure of the real implications.
Is it possible to build something quickly without dark money coming it it? Does that mean BS will eventually fall into darkness?

Women’s sport - even at this nascent stage of becoming professionalised and organised, carries so much hope for what a more equitable, less lopsided future might be like for sportspersons and the community. It ushers better templates that might even save men’s sports
