A fallen tree – alive, and full of life
This tree’s exposed roots are covered in lichens, making their home on the rough bark. It’s a reminder that in a healthy landscape, even a fallen tree keeps giving – sheltering species, storing carbon, and continuing the work that is nature. #trees #lichen

Sheep for Geese 🐑🪿
On Tayvallich Estate, our sheep are playing their role in nature recovery – helping thousands of wintering geese find the food they need to thrive.
By grazing the grass to just the right height, they keep the land perfect for these migratory visitors from Islay and beyond. #birds

#Rewilding. #Repeopleing.
A standing stone at Tayvallich has watched over this land for thousands of years.
It reminds us that people and this place are inseparable.
Rewilding is not just about restoring nature, it’s about jobs, homes, and communities.

Loch Ness hydropower project ‘gives renewable energy a bad name’
We have raised serious concerns about the impact of Loch Ness becoming artificially tidal. Watch our short video from Co-chief Scientist Dr Penelope Whitehorn, which goes into more detail. #lochness #renewableenergy #glenearrach

Can sheep help our trees grow? 🐑🌱
Ranger Daniel Holm tried a simple idea: wrapping saplings with locally sourced sheep fleece to deter deer. Co-chief scientist Penelope Whitehorn has launched a follow-up experiment: spraying saplings with lanolin, the natural wax found in wool. #NatureBasedSolutions

Beautiful animals, difficult choices.
At Tayvallich Estate (as in Bunloit), many trees show signs of deer damage. Bark stripped, saplings grazed.
Without predators, deer populations have grown far beyond balance.
Listen to Estate Manager Ewan Paterson’s view on these animals.
