Ready to launch into orbit?

Kohlrabi is unique in its shape and growing habit. It’s actually a swollen root. This is one of my favorite fall vegetables. The leaves can be eaten like collard greens. Shop small businesses; your choices matter. #familyfarm #farmlife #growyourfood

Wouldn’t it be great if the next viral trends were ….
~ being considerate of other people
~ using actual facts
~ feeding children
~ following the constitution
That’s what I wish for all of us for this Thanksgiving. Thank you for your support of our family farm, whether online or in person. #farmlife

We have to be selective about what we are planting. We look at the specific varieties that grow well in lower light levels and cooler temperatures. It’s not just enough to grow lettuce, we look for the fastest growing, most cold tolerant varieties. Shop small businesses! #farmlife #familyfarm

Flowers really do make us feel better! These are all flowers still growing and Del., zone seven, in Nov. Thank you for supporting the local Growers and small businesses in your neighborhood. Your choices somewhere where to spend money matter. #farmlife #flowers #familyfarm

How to add variety to winter growing?

Try different colors and varieties of the crops that will grow well in cold temperatures and lower light levels. Thank you for supporting small businesses; your choices matter. #familyfarm #farmlife

Sometimes it just takes a shift in focus. Have I pushed myself really hard over the years? Yes. I could’ve made things easier for myself by focusing on what my customers wanted, which was to be able to count on getting fresh, great tasting produce on a consistent basis. Shop local! #farmlife #grow

Cold weather plus Thanksgiving coming equals time to bake!

We’ve been busy with lots of baking. So many favorites, it’s hard to know where to start. Or stop. Remember those who have less abundance; food banks appreciate all donations. Thank you for supporting small businesses. #farmlife #pies #farm

Just a reminder that every business has work going on that we do not see. We use a coconut fiber to start the seeds in, which composts when we transplant it into soil. Thank you for supporting small businesses; your choices matter. BTW, your local food bank appreciates your support. #farmlife

Will those lonely figs actually ripen?

Very, very, slowly, the figs can still ripen as long as the temperatures are warm enough. However, the end is near. Inevitably, there will be some figs left on the tree. We leave them for the birds. Shop small businesses; your choices matter. #farmlife #figs

Once you learn the weather patterns for your particular, micro climate, when you have a near frost, a frost, a hard freeze, then you know which plants will do well for you. Thank you for supporting small businesses; your choices matter. BTW, do not support pedophiles. #farmlife #familyfarm #buylocal

Yes, your herbs are hardy. They want to grow, let them.

Here is an example of how parsley is doing these days.

What grows in November?

Frosty nights, fewer daylight hours, chilly days (zone 7)…. A surprising number of plants keep growing. Find what works for your area. Support your local, small businesses; where you spend your money matters. Btw, unedited Epstein files. #farmlife #wintergrowing #familyfarm

Companion plants is a fancy term for plants that provide benefits for each other. Marigolds are a great pest deterrent, plus we love the flowers. Now we will find out how well they grow over the winter. Thank you for supporting small businesses. Your choices matter. #farmlife #familyfarm #flowers

Why transplant? A few hours transplanting gets us two weeks ahead in the growing process.

Winter growing is slower than summer, and we take steps to make it as time efficient as possible. This means transplanting. Thank you for supporting small businesses; your choices matter. #farmlife #winter

Nothing better than a big pile of leaves!

Mulch, weed suppression, moisture retention, compost…. And yes, there is climbing and jumping by certain members of the family. Thank you for supporting small businesses; your choices matter. Oh, those emails… #farmlife #familyfarm #fall #compost

Frosty nights and cold windy days are not what you usually think of for an ideal growing environment.

Remember, many plants thrive in cold weather. These were all planted 8-12 weeks ago. Support small businesses; your choice matters. Those emails… #farmlife #fall #familyfarm #frost

How much should we grow?

So far we have not grown too much. The demand is there for fresh produce in all seasons. We always plan for a backup crop, because stuff happens.

Thank you for supporting small businesses. Your choices matter. Taking a break from broken news. #farmlife #familyfarm #news

Small business owner? Treat your business like a business, not a hobby. Plus act with kindness and compassion. Thank you for supporting the small businesses in your neighborhood. Choices matter. And how about those emails? #farmlife #familyfarm #smallbusiness

Why push the boundaries of growing? Food is a fundamental need and the demand for a secure food supply keeps growing.
Your choice of where to spend money has a big impact. Plus, we need to focus on things that do not horrify us, like the Epstein emails. #farmlife #familyfarm #foodsupply

When you are crazy enough to think cold weather is not going to stop you from growing…

In addition to being able to grow in the tunnels, we always try to push the limits of what can be grown. Really, figs? Thank you for supporting small businesses in your area. BTW, Epstein. #farmlife #familyfarm

What makes our garden grow?
We started making our own compost about 20 years ago and have never turned back. We use 75% dried leaves and 25% vegetable scraps. The plants love it!

How can we help feed our community?

One project we have is working with @WestsideHealth. We provide them with fresh produce and eggs weekly, and they distribute in their communities.

Please support, as you are able, your local food banks & food pantries. (Btw, Epstein) #farmlife #food
