I miss early arca stuff. Everything after the self titled album has been a big let down. I vividly remember listening to the Entrañas mixtape the day it launched and being completely blown away.

Much in the same way they treat the genre as a pure combat based obstacle and ignore the importance of exploration and atmosphere, they completely miss the tone and end up with a one-note experience that lacks the weirdness, interesting themes and even silliness of some of the characters

That's a great way to put it. Its telling that a ton of souls-likes focused on the very surface aspects of the series (some even doubling down on the masculinity) came and went without leaving much of an impact.

Its stupid to talk about "enjoying something for the right reasons" but I think about this stuff bc at times I wish I could keep certain ppl from enjoying my art/game
But maybe it's better if I don't and it works for them as a window to different ideas?

ER pulls these topics in every direction. There was something off to me about how prominent Godfrey was in the promo material and I hate how in most endings your character becomes some form of ruler sitting on a throne
But then there's the stuff about the duality of Marika, Trina, Messmer, Ranni etc

Cause yeah, the minute you dive a bit deeper you have more interesting themes such as identity, femininity...etc. But no, to some it's just big sword game.

Agree and it's honestly wild to me how these games also manage to attract a big dudebro crowd that do the most basic surface reading and only see them as an obstacle to conquer. A world where you become the strongest warrior and defeat all of your enemies in order to prove you are a true gamer.

Godhusk was my fav out of the 3 books but I enjoyed them all for different reasons!
Interesting that you say its derivative, I found its setting and style quite original, but might be bc Im not as familiarized with Garage:Bad Dream/Baroque and the other sources of inspiration.

Diría que lo disfruté incluso más que Vermis. Más allá del setting y estilo chulísimos que cuesta encontrar en otras partes, me gustó que aquí las mecánicas toman incluso más peso que en el anterior y dejan entrever un no-juego super interesante
