US foreign policy continues to amaze. After proposing capitulation and turning 180° to offering support we are back to proposing capitulation. It is difficult to explain this. But my assumption is that we are back to numerous politicians working the phone.

I would suggest everyone check their emotions when reading this article. Germany will spend TWICE of what the UK does on defense. Poland will train EVERY adult male for war.
We will have massive armies in Europe. Work together, integrate. Learn from the past.
I am not very keen on this headline.
And I also think that at times like these, it is important to be serious, without being alarmist. But this article is very much worth reading. Things are serious.

Interesting to see that Trump's "strategy" shows how out of touch he is. Bill Clinton's presidency ended 24 years ago. Larry Summers' most prominent job was what - director of the national economic council? And that was also more than a decade ago. /1 edition.cnn.com/2025/11/14/p...

What is particularly striking is that this includes supervision of MSc, PhDs, co-authorship (in the sciences! Where you can have tons of authors) and would be 5-years retroactive. Who would still be eligible?
I've been on the road so I'm behind the times—but if you wanted to destroy US science, I can think of no more expedient action.

Blatant unconstitutionality aside, fuck this backwards forwards and sideways.

The UK needed and needs 10s of thousands of civil servants to manage the red tape Brexit created. Farage‘s rank incompetence might well create many more red tape jobs. And he is still unwilling to learn.
Nigel Farage says Reform would “reduce the size of the bloated state” by seizing Brexit opportunities to deregulate

@jreland.bsky.social points out in @the-independent.com that this creates a dilemma - the more the UK does things differently to the EU, the more work there is for British bureaucrats

What Rosalind Franklin truly contributed to the discovery of DNA’s structure
Franklin was no victim in how the DNA double helix was solved. An overlooked letter and an unpublished news article, both written in 1953, reveal that she was an equal player.

The way in which we present who buys Russian oil and gas is irritating. When Germany got its gas from Russia, we all said "Germany". Now, strangely, in statistics it is "the EU". But it is not the EU. The largest buyers are 1) Hungary, 2) Slovakia, 3) France, 4) Belgium. www.russiafossiltracker.com
