The tone or shape of the conversation initially felt like a normal interview, with probing and analytical questions. Then, it seemed like the GPT was doubting my answers and repeatedly asking the same question to get me to answer according to their expectations. I'm not sure.

The systems or logics that seem to be governing GPT questions are those that don't trust my words, that think my memories are inaccurate, and that always ask questions as if I'm giving the wrong answer.

I don't think any of the versions feel "real." They sound profound, like they're digging into my subconscious mind, but I don't think they'll fully understand what that means.

I felt it started asking rambling questions and focusing only on specific vocabulary without considering the overall context.

When I described the room differently and GPT always adjusted to a default direction that the room "should" look like this, I paused a little.

according to Shields, the kind of art that survives the present moment is the one that feel most "you", the one that from what you been through and tell through the most authenticity. The art that been made of is the one that from memory.

I think nonfiction and fiction both tell reality through different approach, like nonfiction tells us about the world, and fiction tells us about ourselves. Every book is a viewpoint so where we draw the line is pretty arbitrary.

“Anything processed by memory is fiction.”
So memory is part of our identity, and memory is fiction, so our identity is also...fiction?!!?

I'm not entirely convinced that political art can bring about any huge change, and I don't think that's its purpose but that doesn't mean stories about politics can't become valuable works of art.

Shields believes selection is a creative act as it's like the term "creat" isn't enough. I feel like what he mean is makes art art lies in the idea that begins the process.

Hot take: Darwin's theory of evolution was not a complete work and still has so many limitations. I mean he might relied only on his practical observations and used these reasoning to explain the unclear.

“It’s now not the anecdote that’s lacking—only its character of certainty, its tranquility, its innocence.”
Honestly, I can’t think of many modernist writers who would call plot useless. And for a critic i don't know if plot really the most important element anyway.

2. I think Shields mean by "Genre collapse" is like non-fiction and fiction; basically, there are no boundaries between them, and it's a good thing that it doesn't limit the artist. And it's best suited for people with a freedom mindset, or those who don't demand "the truth."

I'm not very knowledgeable about US history, but I essentially wonder how all these innovations combined to create the major changes we know today as the Industrial Revolution.

One thing come to mind during this time are churches or temples served as social centers and were often located right in the center of town. That's cool how they were one of the few activities that ordinary people could participate in outside of their work.

So the idea of converting sounds or concepts into written form was a genius, but I find it far more impressive that they managed to convince enough people to learn their system so that it could spread to billions of others.

I think "reality" according to Shields means like black and white, reality isn't black or white, but rather a gray area. It's like being honest, but also having calculations involved.

“A deliberate unartiness: “raw” material, seemingly unprocessed, unfiltered...”
That made me wonder about authenticity at this point in time, given the current state of AI video, where authenticity and "unartiness" are so easily faked, and what looks real is actually fake.

I've been reflecting on using various AI tools to spark creative inspiration and experiment with new ideas. Since AI isn't going away, we have to adapt to this new environment.
