Homes for Lambeth Tenants

A community of 150+ privately renting families facing 'no-fault' evictions from Lambeth council

On @lbc.co.uk this morning, Jules spoke with Matthew Wright about the fight to protect HfL Tenants from eviction.

Let’s be clear: making residents homeless helps no one — least of all those already without a home.

The line? Labour-led Lambeth Council must evict dozens of families and vulnerable tenants.

How? Through Section 21 evictions, otherwise known as ‘no fault evictions’, that are soon-to-be banned by current Labour government.

Watch Manuel speak truth to power in his incisive deputation ✊ He delivered it on behalf of HfL Tenants at the latest full Lambeth Council meeting.

As evident by Manuel’s speech, the council’s argument collapses under scrutiny.

This Labour council set up a 'private' company, Homes for Lambeth, to pose as a 'private' landlord. It is now using Section 21 notices, soon-to-be abolished by the current Labour (!) government, to displace multiple families and vulnerable tenants from five different Lambeth estates.

@zoegarbett.bsky.social asks the Mayor of London why he hasn't gotten back to HfL Tenants yet, despite committing to do so immediately after the State of London Debate 2025.

A month has now passed since Khan made his promise, yet neither him nor his Deputy Mayor have followed it up.

Appreciate how Sadiq Khan’s thoughts went straight from Lambeth Council to unscrupulous landlords! Coincidence? Don’t think so!

HfL Tenants got mentioned in Westminster! It’s official, we’re on the pages of @ukparliament.parliament.uk history!

So, why was our case brought up in Parliament? Here's a bit of context 👇

🚨 Section 21 ‘no fault’ evictions remain one of the leading drivers of homelessness.

Wouldn’t that make us precisely the people Lambeth claims it wants to house in our flats?

Jules & July are both neurodivergent and queer. Jules is disabled. What other boxes do you expect them to ‘tick’ just so they may ‘deserve’ to have a safe place to live?

Our flats are homes. Jules & July have lived in theirs for over two years. It took them six months to find it after having lived in an overcrowded mouldy studio.

Lambeth Council claims it wants to let our homes to those with the most urgent housing needs. If evicted, we will become homeless.

If you say you’re not making us homeless, why do you require a comms strategy to ensure you’re not ‘SEEN TO BE’ making households homeless?

Why was this decision made behind closed doors & by a committee the council refuses to admit exists?

Why inflict this COMPLETELY AVOIDABLE suffering?
