Now, I’m not being overly pessimistic, but unless you are a cataloguer or meta-data specialist who knows their Marc21, 505 probably doesn’t mean much. Okay, there might the A505 going past your house, or that road might have taken you to places, or there might be another, worldly meaning of this sequence of digits, but unless you create Marc21 records you probably don’t think about cataloguing!

‍To coincide with the end of the teaching term at the London Jesuit Centre, Heythrop Library is returning to shorter opening hours, from Saturday 6 December 2025, until Sunday 11 January 2026. Please be aware that from 3 December 2025, we might need up to 2-working days to process your membership, or register as a new member. We will process your application or renewal as soon as possible. The Library is closed after 23 December 2025, and we are scheduled to re-open on the 5 January 2026. Whilst we are closed no processing will happen - human intervention is needed.

Captain’s log #6. 21 November 2025. We have had a day of time travel last week: travelling back to the early 1990s. We went back for 1 day to a situation where we did not have any internet in the building. Reflecting on this is not a massive achievement of analytical prowess. Basically: we could not access our catalogue, could not do much of our normal work.
