Artists make art. Audiences make meaning. If it was “just a song” it wouldn’t spark the strong feelings this one does. I agree: he’s a genius & our “takes” are personal. But also: maybe no one meant to shit on Billy Joel or on your mojo by offering/opening a different view (proof it’s a great song)

His genius is uncontested here, and who knows his intentions? I appreciate the different responses. The song is indeed beautiful. And slyly disturbing. Genius’s don’t create things that are “just” one way or another. Nothing to get hostile over: “It’s just art.”

Me too. Idk what’s intended, but some of the description are trauma triggering, having grown up with a mom whose m.o was gaslighting (throw shadows at you), narcissistic (can’t be convicted) and borderline (frequently kind, suddenly cruel).

I’m with you. I gave a job and a personality and entrepreneur doesn’t fit. I have zero interest in accounting and sorting through the stuff. If/When I get sick I want to get well so I can get back to not being an entrepreneur
