Zine . introduction. For your first main assignment, you'll have the opportunity to create a zine exploring the environmental impact of SpaceX’s operations in Brownsville, Texas, and the surrounding areas in the Rio Grande Valley (RGV). The RGV is located in South Texas, just 25 miles from the US-Mexico border. Brownsville, along with other small cities and towns, makes up this region, and the industrial complex known as Starbase is situated in Brownsville. Some might consider this assignment basic, but I believe it's one of the most exciting forms of alt media available. Not only is it cost-effective and accessible, but it also offers immense creative potential. The Rio Grande Valley has a rich history of colonization, displacement, and resistance. Within this context, Mexican, Mexican American, Indigenous, and other communities have endured environmental degradation and injustice. Despite these struggles, communities have organized and fought for environmental justice, thriving even in a heavily militarized zone. Many artists, musicians, writers, and poets have emerged from these communities. This assignment encourages you to think creatively about how alternative forms of media can raise awareness about environmental degradation and environmental racism in the Rio Grande Valley. It's important to note that the environmental impact of SpaceX’s operations is a complex and evolving issue. Other operations may also harm and exploit the area. Always conduct thorough and reliable research using credible sources. in 2009, I made a zine on cooking everything entirely in a coffeepot &micro. now i find myself in the same situation, but more sick. i think i'll put out another one! back then we had water well & no heater. showers were cold but now asthma & cold make my lungs hurt *giant airfyer pancake
