The most recent rise in Texas Islamophobia has also corresponded with a broader normalization of Christian nationalism - led by the same education leaders who called CAIR reps terrorist leaders last week.

Much more on that push here:
🧵🧵 Texas Republicans have been increasingly open and aggressive about Christianizing America via schools - to, in the words of the state education board chair, center classrooms around "GOD, GOP & USA."

Bo French's campaign is the latest in an ongoing and intensifying wave of anti-Muslim rhetoric and moves by top Texas GOP leaders. Last week, Gov. Abbott declared CAIR a terrorist organization - leading to reps for the group being harassed as they tried to testify about anti-Muslim bullying.
A Muslim activist tried to tell Texas education leaders about a growing wave of Islamophobia. Some of them called her a terrorist.

A dispatch from the front line of the battle to Christianize public schools:
She Wanted to Speak on Anti-Muslim Bigotry. She Was Labeled a Terrorist Leader.
Shaimaa Zayan, who works for the Austin chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations, urged the Texas State Board of Education to reconsider its curriculum changes.
