I'm writing up my latest newsletter, where I recommend some of the best foreign, queer, old and just generally brilliant films streaming on the BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and 5.

I also include links to articles related to the films I find interesting.

Please sign up for fortnightly(ish) film recs!

I loved every performance in The Last Showgirl. Anderson and Lee Curtis are rightly getting praise, but everyone brought their A game: Song, Shipka, Lourd. Dave Bautista gives such a vulnerable performance. Even though he was onscreen for 5 minutes, Jason Schwartzman was so convincing. Movie acting!

Also no cinematography for Nickel Boys? That's incredible.

I would love for you to follow my newsletter, where I recommend foreign, old and just generally brilliant films that are playing on our public service broadcasters (BBC, ITV, C4)

I also use it an excuse to rant about the world of freelancing

I usually keep my cool at screenings/events but I was a real fanboy at the Wallace and Gromit BBC screening.

(Yes, I did dress up as Wallace. Although, to be fair, that is how I dress most days.)

There's a lot I disagree with in Sontag's essays, but I always found her diaries extremely helpful in offering ways to approach writing and critical thinking.
