Henrico County is proud to celebrate February as Black History Month!

The county will host activities to highlight Black history, including book discussions, museum presentations, a film festival, cooking classes and walking tours of African American cemeteries.

Winter Storm Fern packed an icy punch, but Henrico was ready for worse. If mass power outages had occurred, the Sports & Events Center would have opened as an emergency shelter.
“Logistics on this storm were simply off the charts,” the county manager said.

Behind each dump truck, snowplow & other vehicle deployed during Winter Storm Fern was the staff of Central Automotive Maintenance. Mechanics worked round the clock to make sure the vehicles remained in service to handle the community's needs.

The incoming storm could make roads unsafe for drivers, knock down trees or power lines, and could also cause power outages for many homes in the area. The best way to stay safe during the storm is to remain at home and avoid driving.

Henrico County’s parks, recreation centers, libraries and public-use areas will close at 4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 24 due to the incoming winter storm. Those facilities also will be closed Sunday, Jan. 25.

Henrico government offices & courts will be closed Monday, Jan. 19 for Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Trash collection will not occur & will resume Tuesday on a 1-day delay through the week. Public-use areas will be open. Recycling service through CVWMA will be on a normal schedule.
