Your conference might be cool, but I bet you don't have a giant pencil mascot photo opp. @edsguild.bsky.social's Red Pencil conference is the best!

They're saying it out loud.

Whose heritage? Whose homeland?

Not sure I can even express how much I do not want this.

Moment of appreciation for the tiny perfect envelopes for razor blades that came with my bread lame.

Awwww, back when I thought working within the current party system might do some good.

Turned out tasty although a little slumped. Oh darn, I'll have to try again.

I guess 2025 is giving COVID-era panic vibes, because I felt compelled to make sourdough starter just like in those olden days.

It's alive!

Pondering this all the time ever since I learned I'm seventh-generation Oregonian based on a Donation Land Claim by an ancestor for Kalapuya/Santiam land near Salem in 1854.

The Oregon State Coalition of Graduate Employees are on strike.

"Undergrads are going into debt for quality instruction and educational resources, and we cannot provide those without being able to live comfortably in the city that we work in."

Cleo is miffed that I'm working to pay for her food rather than petting her. (Or maybe she's mad that I need to clean my desk?)

Nothing like a disdainful loaf to keep one company.

I've never been to a presidential library and museum before. I was expecting no criticism, but I did not expect this kind of adulation.

The Oregon Jewish Museum & Center for Holocaust Education in Portland has great exhibits on the history of Jews in Oregon and on the Holocaust. But they also have large exhibits on social justice and the history of all kinds of discrimination up to the present. Really good stuff.

Normally I don't listen to music while working, especially not with lyrics, but this is doing it today.

Had no awareness of them when this came out in 1998 🙃 But it's a favorite now.

Normally I don't work weekends unless there's a deadline really looming. Today I did a bit of work in the garden and enjoyed these autumn lovelies.

I grew the sunflowers from black oil bird seed, the pumpkins are sugar pies, and the zinnias are volunteers from last year's garden.

I've always wanted to grow poppies. Just saw this first bloom in the backyard today. Hurray! "Qis Bowling Ball" variety, should make tennis ball size pods.
