i filed a rent overcharge complaint and it will take up to 2 years for me to see any relief because the state office in charge of these cases is underfunded and completely backed up. it will get worse as more new yorkers realize what's going on. you should file anyway tho. hcr.ny.gov/rent-increas...

the only thing the state has started doing is fining landlords who don't register their rent stabilized units - $500 per unit per month. that got my landlord to register his units but he stated the wrong price for each one in my building - some are higher or lower than actual price.

there is NO and i mean NO enforcement or mechanism in place at the state level to make sure landlords aren't overcharging rent stabilized tenants. @thecity.nyc has done great reporting on this. www.thecity.nyc/2022/12/23/r...
