With the SNW cast about to completely flesh out the TOS roles, you can almost read this book entirely imagining the new versions of the characters. It’s almost impossible to see M’Bengas name now and not picture our SNW actor.

This is the exact one I had in mind! These are just fine with me. It looks like someone put a lot of thought and care into it.

Let’s be honest, McCoy was a liability during this whole part of the story. He just wanted to be closer to Anitra and almost screwed things up several times with his jealously and obsessiveness. Ew. #TrekBookClub #StarTrekDemons

No, just no. Obviously she’s going to attract a lot of attention. McCoy should have stayed in his lane, if only for her sake. She seems too ambitious to even have time for a romantic relationship at this point in her life anyway #TrekBookClub #StarTrekDemons

I kind of figured that was the case, but it was still a nice reveal. I liked her character more than I thought I would when she was originally introduced #TrekBookClub #StarTrekDemons

I like the old illustrated covers and would still like to see a day when we have a hand-illustrated painting on covers. I do like some of the newer stuff, like the new TOS novels and the SNW novels have nice designs.

I did appreciate that too. And in that sense, I think the cover did a good job. The story really becomes about McCoy, Anitra (I’ll reserve my comments about those two until it comes up later), and Spock. #TrekBookClub #StarTrekDemons

I thought Anitra’s abilities made more sense than vague Betazoid powers that aren’t consistent in proximity to the subject. It really seems like a curse in disguise of a blessing. #TrekBookClub #StarTrekDemons

This was another weird plot detail for me. Kirk should have been made aware, or the reader should have been made more aware about what was going on. #TrekBookClub #StarTrekDemons

I enjoyed the brazen, intelligent, genuine character of Anitra. This could easily have been annoying, but she was as also charming when she needed to be, and was really focused throughout the whole novel on her mission. #TrekBookClub #StarTrekDemons

It was very ominous and unsettling. The rose bushes were a nice element to the story. It would have been very scary to have been in Amanda’s place #TrekBookClub #StarTrekDemons

Insects showed up a few times in the story, and I kind of expected there to be more to that. Maybe the insects were an analogy for the demons in the book that swarm, multiply, and overtake people before they realize what’s happening. #TrekBookClub #StarTrekDemons

Silek was a really interesting part of the story. I thought his relationship with Amanda was sweet. Him gifting her a book from Earth reminded me of Spock gifting Chapel with a book right as he’s meeting Kirby for the first time in SNW. #TrekBookClub #StarTrekDemons

Silek knew what was going on at this point, right? This was one of many confusing little plot details for me. The box idea is neat, especially that it only opens when it wants to. But it got a little lost in the story bc the main threat was from those “infected” #TrekBookClub #StarTrekDemons

It was pretty cryptic. It wasn’t clear what the connection was between T’Yelle and Starnn was, and I flipped back to it a few times throughout the story. I liked the jungle setting. #TrekBookClub #StarTrekDemons

I like that connection a lot!

It’s very Boris. It did help me visualize Anitra, and I think the likenesses of Spock and McCoy are very good. I actually think there is a hint of something sinister, and Anitra’s expression makes it seem like she knows more than we know. #TrekBookClub #StarTrekDemons

Sounds great! Ring of Fire has been up for vote twice now, so I think it deserves a spot. And I’ll be excited to dive back into Prometheus 🖖🏻 #TrekBookClub

Prediction for the next story: I think the “son” of the Ancient Red will actually have something to do with the “sun” of the system. I’m super interested to see where they’re going with the origin of the Renao. Hope it doesn’t disappoint! #TrekBookClub #StarTrekBookClub

Does the phrase “fire with fire” make sense in German? Does the title literally translate? Just wondered if was titled that with the intent of being translated to English
December 8, 2025 at 12:14 AM
Do we know who did the translation? There were only a couple places where I could tell it may have been translated oddly. Otherwise, I thought it was very well done and you couldn’t really tell #TrekBookClub #StarTrekFireWithFire

It sent me straight to eBay to try and find a decent copy of the next book lol #TrekBookClub #StarTrekFireWithFire. It definitely feels like a “part one” as opposed to a standalone novel

Milka; hard to see but any jammy cookies are amazing with coffee or tea 😋

I’d like to nominate the next Prometheus book, The Root of all Rage

I had a lot of hope that Rozhenko would play more of a part in tempering Kromm’s belligerence, but we don’t really get to see his influence much except for at the beginning. Kromm does get some results, but it’s in a really unacceptable way #TrekBookClub #StarTrekFireWithFire
