Me, lounging in the summer, trying to figure out which game to play next

Look, it's not good, but with three friends and a 24-pack, it is absolutely fun

Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth - May 28, 2009 (DS, JP)

In this first entry of the Ace Attorney spin-off series, you play as series mainstay Miles Edgeworth as he searches for evidence and interrogates witnesses. I haven't played it, but I assume there's a lot of finger-pointing.

What was your first console? 🎮

I got a SNES when I was 4 or 5 years old. A lot of my early memories are tied to that little grey and purple box. I spent so many summer days playing Super Mario World, Super Mario Kart, NBA Jam, and TMNT: Tournament Fighters with my brother and cousins.

WarioWare, Inc.: Mega Microgames! - May 26, 2003 (GBA, NA)

Easily one of the most addictive games on GBA, the first WarioWare featured over 210 "microgames" coming at you with ever-increasing speed. I've been playing this one recently through NSO and it's been a lot of fun to revisit.

Mario vs. Donkey Kong - May 24, 2004 (GBA, NA)

Mario and DK have always had a slightly strained relationship.

In Mario vs. Donkey Kong, Mario must rescue his Mini-Mario toys from DK by solving puzzles and battling him across different levels. This GBA title was also remade in 2024 for the Switch.

Digimon World - May 23, 2000 (PS, NA)

The first entry in the Digimon World series has you rescuing Digimon all over File Island. This one sticks with me for its approach to the monster raising RPG subgenre when compared to Pokemon and even its own sequels.

Imagine Pokemon with bathroom breaks.

Red Faction - May 22, 2001 (PS2, NA)

It's 2075, you work in the mines of Mars, you have few rights, and disease is rampant. Sounds like a good time for an uprising!

Red Faction has been on my backlog for quite a long time now. Have you played Red Faction or any of its sequels?

Baroque was originally released for Sega Saturn on May 21, 1998. This post-apocalyptic roguelike tasks players with reaching the bottom floor of the Neuro Tower to *checks notes* redeem themselves from sin and fix the world. Just like any other day, eh?

Have you played Baroque or any of its ports?

I take a look back at the game that started my gaming journey, so many Goombas ago: the original Super Mario Bros. for NES.

The 2024 NFL season is upon us, and I'm revisiting NFL 2K5 to celebrate. Best NFL game ever? I think so. #retrogaming #PS2 #NFL2K5

"The Gods of Olympus have abandoned me." - Kratos

God of War was released for the PS2 on March 22, 2005. Featuring a violent, tragic story, intense combat, and fresh (for the time) quick-time event gameplay, the first God of War is easily one of the best games for the console.

Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire were released in North America 21 years ago today. I owned Sapphire and a buddy owned Ruby. Sapphire was the last Pokémon game I finished, and I loved it.

Where do Ruby and Sapphire (and Emerald) sit on your list of Pokémon faves?

"Sometimes life is too uncertain to have regrets." - Goku

Akira Toriyama passed away on March 1, 2024. This man's artistic endeavors have impacted me more than any other manga artist. He will be missed.

This title, based on the 1997 anime remake, closely follows the OG manga over its 7 chapters.

*deep, manly voice* THE BOUNCER

The Bouncer was released on March 6, 2001 in North America for the PS2. It was Squaresoft's first international release for the console.

If you've played The Bouncer, who is your favorite character and why is it Kou? 😛

More tactical RPG goodness

Disgaea 2: Cursed Memories was released in Japan (where it's known as Makai Senki Disugaia 2) on February 23, 2006.

Are you a fan of the Disgaea series? Which entry is your favorite?

DO A BARRELL ROLL

Star Fox was released in Japan on this day in 1993. Star Fox is one of Nintendo's most iconic franchises. It's been almost 7 years since Star Fox 2, originally canceled, was released on the SNES Classic.

Do you want a new Star Fox game soon?

Turn-based strategy is for lovers

Final Fantasy Tactics Advance was released in Japan on Valentine's Day in 2003. The gameplay and jobs system made me fall in love with this game.

Does FFTA make your list of top Final Fantasy games?

The one where Mario is a flying raccoon

Super Mario Bros. 3 was released on February 12, 1990. The gameplay is similar to the first Mario game for NA gamers - our Super Mario Bros. 2 was based on Yume Kojo: Doki Doki Panic.

Where do you rank Super Mario Bros. 3 among your favorite Mario games?

Good vibrations

Drill Dozer was released for the Game Boy Advance on February 6, 2006. It was one of only two GBA games to have a rumble feature built into the cartridge. Coming at the end of the GBA's lifespan, it's considered one of the best games for the handheld.

Mario's first adventure as material derived from wood fibers

Paper Mario was released on February 5, 2001. This game was originally supposed to be developed by Square, but due to obligations (*cough* FFVII *cough*), Nintendo picked Intelligent Systems.

I think it worked out okay.

A speedy hedgehog, a two-tailed fox, and an angry echidna walk into a bar

30 years ago, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 was released. It's a high point for the series and, combined with Sonic & Knuckles released later in the same year, delivers one of the best 2D platforming experiences in gaming.

THE PLANET'S DYIN', CLOUD

Final Fantasy VII was released on January 31, 1997 in Japan. It wasn't my first Final Fantasy and isn't even my favorite, but I still put it in my top 10 games of all time.

Is FFVII your favorite Final Fantasy game?
