Imo I think people kinda undersell the essential part sans plays in Undertale. Like people know he's important in geno and stuff, but I don't see it talked about to the level it should. He and Flowey TOGETHER make up the main narratives of the whole game, in all the routes, they are the main two.

A tragedy including a missing sibling being the inciting incident of most of the games plot? Two main forces driving the point of the game home that are in conflict with each other? The main character and player being in the middle of this conflict? This definitely means nothing :)

Love how every "dusttale but flowey" take just doesn't realize that flowey was already crazy in UT, so the prospect of seeing a 10% crazier flowey just completely falls flat
