It’s not about the cheese. It’s about the fun.

You may know me as Rotties.
I ran a trail 10k this morning in pissing rain, after completely ignoring the need to train for it, but I also made these Yorkshire puddings, so I can’t decide which achievement I am most proud of.

Child’s first uni interview. I think I am more nervous than she is.

Baffled at people turning up here saying they can’t use X anymore, a full year after Elon’s Nazi salute. Almost like they needed to wait for a problem that might affect them personally.

Went to a sauna in the woods yesterday. 10/10 would highly recommend. Even the cold shower was nice.

First Friday dance of 2026. It’s barbell at the gym today, Smalldog has settled in like he’s always been here, and the child has heard from all of the unis she applied to.

Planning a day out in Cardiff for the child’s 18th birthday (waaaaaay off in the distant future, obviously). Part of me is a bit cross that there is a rugby international at the stadium that day. The rest of me feels that it is quite on brand…

I’ve had such a lovely day. Sandbags and pull ups at the gym this morning, a long walk around the lake with my friends and the dog’s new friend, watched the sun set from a beer garden on the beach, and now I’m on the sofa with the most cuddly dog in the world.

First full moon dip of the year today. The problem with doing the January one is that now there will be pressure to do the next one, and the one after…
Felt amazing afterwards, but getting in was emotional

Just watched Design for Life from 1999 at the Millennium Stadium on YouTube. Made me a bit teary - I was the exact age that the child is now, and she is off having a great time with her mates, and I’m sitting at home with the same boy I saw in 2000 with. Life is hard, but also good.

And this equally spectacular Very Good Boy had an absolute ball. But is unlikely to be awake to see in the new year.

Went wandering up in the Rhondda valley today. I know I’m biased, but Wales is spectacular

The child and I bought an extra advent calendar to save to watch Call the Midwives. Today is the day

There is a certain fear that only comes when you let a rescue dog off the lead for the first time. Like ‘Will we be back at the rescue this afternoon looking for a new dog?’ But this boy was very good.

Jammed my finger at the gym yesterday. At what point will the throbbing stop, and am I going to lose the nail? (Apologies. Hideous hand photo.)

Two weeks ago this dog lived in a kennel at a rescue. He seems to have settled in quite well.

I have been doing CrossFit for almost four years, and this morning I did my first kipping pull-up. I was starting to think it would never EVER happen. But here we are - 43 and learning new stuff.

It is very nice to have Sunday mornings with a dog in the bed again.

Off to collect the de-bollocked dog.

LOOK AT HIS FACE!
December 11, 2025 at 8:17 AM
This seems a bit unfair when actually he is being a Very Good Boy

Welcome home, Smalldog. (He is actually quite chonky, but loads smaller than any of his predecessors)

Had the best time at the gym Christmas party last night. Danced for hours. And today we bring Small Dog home. As weekends go this is pretty good.

Our local rugby club burned down last weekend. They were meant to be playing a club match at home this weekend - Cardiff RFC have given them use of the Arms Park for the match, and the WRU are paying for five coaches to take supporters to the game. This is why I will always love rugby.

Tons of work to do today. Am bunking off early to have early Christmas steaks with my MIL and the child, so I got up early … and went to the gym to do weightlifting class.
December 5, 2025 at 9:15 AM
Off to take this boy for a walk
