Even if it’s a glorified tech demo, the studio would make much more from licensing the engine anyways. So long as the tech impresses and runs great, others will want it - plot, acting etc be damned.

It might be that he expresses interest in girls/a girl at the beginning of the game, the player can then make him have a male romance interest, but Sean never identifies himself as bi - the bi community wants to hear a person describe themselves as such, it’s important for representation (imo)
