You can't stay away forever.

First, this makes it sound like you were talking about the people the run the show.
Second, you literally do not know how much research they did and are just assuming.

Despite my grievances, I look at Gran Turismo the same way as I do the first Twisted Metal game. While it is inferior when compared to the sequel, it is still damn good fun. I recommend people play it if only after you've played the ones that came after.

The tracks in question are all pretty good, but there are only 11 which the game tries to make up for by mirroring them. Despite the new challenges the game throws at the player, it can get pretty repetitive having to drive on the Special Stage R5 track for the 10th fucking time.

That is not a joke. Both All-Night require the player to race on a single track for 30 laps which goes on for a fucking hour.
The Grand Valley is no better with it requiring 60 LAPS and takes nearly twice as long despite the track in question being shorter.
They took the word Endurance personally.

In terms of races, there are only four major ones with the rest being Special Events.
Each of the League races gets harder with the standard of each car entry getting higher.
A Special Event has a gimmick ranging from only using a car from a specific country to racing 30 LAPS!

When you find that right car and have enough money, you can tune a simple Subaru Imperza into a fucking Rally car with the race modifier which is cheaper than buying an actually Rally car assuming the brand offers one to begin with.

Gran Turismo's large car count allows for lots of experimentation until you find the right one that fits your playstyle. FF, FR, and 4WD are the three kinds of cars to drive with brands ranging from Aston Martin to TVR. Since this was made by a Japan studio most of the brands are from Japan.

The physics are also kind of wonky when doesn't help especially when you hit a small incline, but once you get over these hurdles its pretty smooth sailing from there.
You'll be able to make enough money to buy and tune any car to your liking.

It wasn't even navigating the tests themselves but trying to be fast enough to meet the bare minimum requirement.
This is also because there are no guidance lines like in the games after nor is there a demonstration video to give you an idea of what to do.

After I got all gold in License B, I stopped trying to gold the other two licenses because trying to pass some of these tests period is hard enough. Especially the International license, fuck all of that. It sucks because getting all gold gives you a prize car that you can't unlock anywhere else.

While these are cool, and encourages the player to do better with a trophy system, there is a notable difficulty spike after license B and the first GT League race: the Sunday Cup. It suddenly takes off the kid gloves and tells you it's all or nothing.

License tests are a way for the game to tutorialize you into how the cars function. Accelerating, cornering, braking, and the functionality of different kinds of cars.
It's a unique way of doing a tutorial that I haven't seen in hardly any other game except maybe Mudrunners.

The goal of Gran Turismo is to steadily progress from ordinary to race cars until you win gold in every race.
Before you can race, you have to get a license.
Now, Gran Turismo 1 is not exactly the best way for newcomers to get into the series. The license tests prove that quickly.
