Thirty-six teams came from across the GTA came to Havergal to compete at our annual Pro-Am debate tournament! We hope all the Am debaters were able to make meaningful connections, pick up new skills, and have fun. Congrats to our own Kristen and Cathy for winning gold in the finals!

Last week our Gr. 5C leaders presented information about the New Circles Community Services Holiday Angel program to Junior School classes! Each class learned about the family they're supporting and their needs. Gr. 5 leaders made their own slide decks and answered any questions that came their way.

Our Chartwells team wrapped up this year's Teaching Kitchen program with a Charcuterie with Chef session! This experience gave parents and grandparents a wonderful opportunity to meet Chef Liberato and support their young chefs by helping them build their very own charcuterie boards to take home.

The Junior School had robots in Prayers! Members of the Robotics Club showcased their "dance-bots" and had them perform a routine for the audience. We also heard about how helpful robots are. Kiran in Gr. 5 introduced us to Pepper, a robot she met at the hospital when she was there for surgery.

Families from Grades 1 and 5 gathered in the Junior School Dining Hall for a special treat! At the Pyjama Jam Breakfast, hosted by the #HCPA, guests enjoyed a tasty breakfast, a photobooth, fun games, and dancing. Thanks to everyone who joined us!

In Grade 5 Science, students explored energy transfers by using hand-powered generators to light LED and incandescent bulbs. They discovered that transferring enough energy to power the incandescent bulb required more effort, sparking discussion about energy efficiency and sustainable choices.

Kristen and Jessie in Grade 9 continued their debate success at the BP Debate Championships in Calgary this past weekend! They finished in second place in the U15 category and qualified for internationals at the ICYD tournament in Oxford, England later this year.

For Diversity Week, we held our first-ever joint Affinity and Alliance meeting! Students from all groups were invited to come together to discuss representation and what it feels like to belong in communities. They were showed where their families are from on a map and to shared words of gratitude.

It's Diversity Week at the Upper School! At Prayers, students spoke about intersectionality and how our identities overlap and shape who we are. They shared how music, fashion, and art can be some of the ways in which people can express their identities and we heard performances from our musicians.

Grade 5 students spoke at Prayers about New Circles Community Services, one our Community Partners. One of the ways in which we offer support to the organization is through the Holiday Angel Program; this year, we're helping more than 15 families through donations of gift cards.
