I change the channel every time. Also change when news programming quotes with no context, just repeats as if it’s somehow a valid point in law or sanity.

Yep. Give them a $1 can of vegetables and they can get that to one family. Give them a dollar and they can turn that into five cans. They can source it better than you or I at the grocery store.

If they are putting out the word for specific items, go for it.

Charity navigator reports this OH ratio. Most pay out more than 90% of donated funds. I wouldn’t donate to a 90% Overhead either.

As for spend locally, please do, and give regularly. You may notice your local food bank may be affiliated with a regional or national provider that has a similar management structure. The local food banks can maintain base services and surges because of that ecosystem. /end

Charity navigator will also show overhead vs mission/charity served. That’s the better metric.

I’m not defending every large salary, esp w/bad OH ratio, but it takes that to recruit and retain leadership talent that could make that or more elsewhere. /2

Large charities require CEOs of significant talent to run organizations larger than some state governments, with a footprint that covers most of the country.

For instance, Red Cross CEO gets a similar scale and is paid from their for-profit revenues (blood services, first aid products, etc.)/1
