Nerder. Soccer by way of American Soccer Analysis. Seattle Mariner fan, general fan of sports tragedy and I play too much video games.
Mariners are raising their floor, not by securing the bullpen in this case but by adding a bat who has been above 100 wRC+ for four straight seasons, puts the ball in play with regularity and hit profile has succeeded in their ball park.

I think it's okay to be a bit negative about weather or not the Mariners are going to be better in five years for this type of deal but I'll always going back to Dave Cameron and the marginal value of a win.

Others have pointed out comps to Ty France and that's not the first time I have seen those. But if you compare France's age 27 season (2022) to Naylor's age 27 season (2024) there are notable differences that lead to a more likely positive out come. xBB%, xSLG, hardhit%, barrel and EV.

Honestly, considering the roster construction and the general needs of the club, I think that's a fair purchase. It's not great value and as a club that's not the Red Sox or Dodgers value is important because they're tight as hell with the pocket book.

That. Also that.

I mean, a team of second liners can do a lot but yeah against a top line that can be brutal.

Probably fair for top end talent but they have good depth and I'm not saying they should be in the top third of the league, I'm saying they shouldn't be near the bottom overall.
