I remember this event changing me too. I was 10. I went to an integrated school. My brother's best friend was black. We were always taught about racial equality and how we achieved that in the 60s. I thought it was in the past. Then Rodney King happened. It radicalized me. A 10 year old.
Remembering today that having your heart broken is a necessary step on the path to becoming fully human. Whichever heartbreak is your first, it’s probably critical that a state break your heart so that you can develop a political imagination. If this is your first, I’m sorry and also welcome.

I've worked at multiple multinational companies now where we had to have ethics training where they talk about corruption in foreign countries and how to avoid getting caught up in the pay for play stuff that is normalized in some countries. I never thought I would see it happen so openly here.
