Federal workers have been fired since inauguration, federal workers have been living with a sword of Damocles since inauguration, so the pain has been ongoing. They deserve better than to be a bargaining chip.

As a Virginian, I note that for our federal workers the shutdown started January 21. This is career ending stuff, not "cut back on household spending." The deal includes protections for workers (no RIFs, invalidating RIFs made during the shutdown, back pay). Not sure I agree, but it's not stupid.

Having watched Kaine since he was my city councilman, my sense is he retires in 2030. But even if he doesn't, that's a long way off to predict the mood of the electorate.

That's a bit disingenuous on their part. Bringing up her being a woman and immigrant would seem "woke." So much so that using her story was simply beyond the thought world oh her and her advisors.
