It was frosty when I went out this morning. I hadn’t painted outside in a long time. It clouded over before I was half way finished and then it started raining. Of course by the time I got back to my car the sun was back out. This is why I’ve been painting inside more lately.

I have paintings that I’m never happy with. I can pull them off my pile at any time and continue to play with them. This is one of them. This morning I changed it for the third time.

I’m experimenting with gouache in a small sketchbook of toned paper. The paper is lightweight and designed for drawing and sketching with dry media. A little water with watercolor makes it buckle. Hopefully using gouache thicker will reduce the warping.

I could no longer tolerate my last figure painting continuing to exist in this world. I cut it in half and this is the top half. I may use the bottom half to try this scene again. This was just supposed to be the underpainting to map out the shapes, but I feel like it concluded prematurely.

I skipped my pre-breakfast physical workout today to do a little painting workout instead. Many of my views are from a road. I usually omit signs and telephone poles and electric lines. Putting them into the painting once in a while creates a tension that provides some interest.

This is the point where I decide to either leave it alone or start adding the texture and leaves to the trees and grasses. I’m gonna pin it to my wall and live with it the way it is for a while. For now it’s done. Acrylic on paper, 7x11” #acrylic#acrylicpainting#landscape#painting#pennsylvania
