It's because the device itself doesn't possess the ability to do language processing terribly fast. I was using Whisper (openai.com/research/whi...) to transcribe a 10 minute recording of a voice call. Took 20 mins on my decently specced work Mac. The TV records and sends to the cloud, same as Alexa
