The fear of what Bloober Team would do to SILENT HILL 2 with a remake (and thankfully avoided) was realized in cinema form from Christophe Gans.

Wasn't going to write about 28 YEARS LATER: THE BONE TEMPLE when I went into it, but came out with too many ideas rattling around and a deep appreciation for what DaCosta's film conveyed.
‘28 Years Later: The Bone Temple’ Review — Asynchronous Media
Nia DaCosta’s turn in the director’s chair for ‘28 Years Later: The Bone Temple’ brings forth a torrent of violence and chaos in a society on the brink of complete moral collapse

Clint Bentley's TRAIN DREAMS made me immediately plan a day trip of hiking. Felt blessed to live in the Pacific Northwest, and all the gorgeous photography got me wondering why I'm not out in the woods this instant. A cozy blanket of a movie.

Very big fan of Dan Trachtenberg's PREDATOR: BADLANDS, where he gets to play with every toy in the Predator sandbox. Also, shout out to the Dad whose child made it 5 minutes into the movie before they had to leave and never returned. PG-13 does not mean things won't get gruesome.

Coverage of the New York Asian Film Festival (@nyaff.bsky.social) begins today at Asynchronous Media. Will have reviews dropping throughout the festival, but first is a review of the new Shinobu Yaguchi film, DOLLHOUSE. asynchronousmedia.com/film-reviews...
NYAFF 2025: 'Dollhouse' Review — Asynchronous Media
Shinobu Yaguchi’s latest film, 'Dollhouse', is a departure from the director’s familiar upbeat comedies as he digs into the horror genre with satisfying results.

Now that people will be seeing the movie this weekend, here's my review again of MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE - THE FINAL RECKONING (which is also doing really well, so thank you for reading if you have)
My full review of MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE - THE FINAL RECKONING is now up. I was worried during the first act as the film harps on doomsday rhetoric and focuses (too much) on raising the stakes to a fever pitch, but once it shifts, it's a staggering achievement. asynchronousmedia.com/film-reviews...

Gareth Evans is back with a barnburner of an action film that is grimy, brutal, and slick as ever. Hardy is a perfect match for the world created here. Spends some time setting the table, but once it lets loose, it easily lives up to its title and pedigree. asynchronousmedia.com/film-reviews...
'Havoc' Review — Asynchronous Media
Gareth Evans’ latest film, 'Havoc', is a bleak crime thriller that sees its star carve a blood-soaked path through the criminal underworld.

Despite my initial disappointment with Season 2 of GANGS OF LONDON, I just powered through it and mostly enjoyed it. However, I did it all for season 3 because you tell me Andrew Koji is in it, and there are episodes directed by Kim Hong-sun, and I'm in.

Rewatched two very chaotic, violent films tonight. Surprised how well PROJECT WOLF HUNTING holds up without a crowd, but unsurprised that TETSUO: THE IRON MAN remains a massive achievement in genre filmmaking. Always hard to chill out after that one.

MICKEY 17 is out now (seeing it tonight), but I can't believe how upset I am that IN THE LOST LANDS isn't opening this week in Victoria.

I reviewed Seiji Tanaka's DEMON CITY, out now on Netflix. Some creative choreography can't overcome a shallow revenge tale dependent on over-the-top violence to be captivating. asynchronousmedia.com/film-reviews...
'Demon City' Review — Asynchronous Media
Seiji Tanaka’s latest film, 'Demon City', is a bloody revenge film that never rises above its dependence on ultraviolence.

I reviewed the new Yeon Sang-ho series, THE BEQUEATHED, releasing tomorrow on Netflix. A satisfying enough crime thriller that lacks any meaningful catharsis, it scratches an itch without realizing its full potential.
'The Bequeathed' Review — Asynchronous Media
Yeon Sang-ho's 'The Bequeathed' is an uneven crime thriller with a tantalizing mystery and an intricate web of secrets.
