The church was built in 1838 and is the final resting place of both George Stephenson and his second wife Elizabeth. There is a very plain memorial slab in the church along with a further memorial slab laid by the Institute of Mechanical Engineers, of which Stephenson was the first president.

I had a little wander around Holy Trinity Church this morning. I occasionally walk through the beautiful church grounds but I've never been inside the church before. I was fortunate enough to be treated to a private tour by Ivor, the church warden.

Had a little wander near Walton Works, a grade II listed former cotton wick mill built in the late 18th century. It was bought by Robinson and Sons Ltd in 1896. There have been ongoing plans for restoration and conversion of the site over the years but little has happened so far.
