Comics people! What's your preferred way to show whispering/quiet talking?

I tend toward small text in a regular-sized balloon, with added italics on a case-by-case basis. But sometimes I'll mess with opacity.

It's wild that we still don't have a commonly accepted comic script format. Basically every script I get is different from the next, with varying levels of technical or layout issues. (But hey, we're all out here doing our best.)

Iconic yellow balloons aside, I love the sfx hidden behind the window frame/blinds -- so dynamic 👌🏼

First up, Jared K. Fletcher's work on EX MACHINA (2004)

These drunken balloons are so effective with the squiggle tail and surrounding lil bubbles.

And now I'm wondering who started the trend of small clustered bubbles denoting drunkenness (maybe they're supposed to represent burps?) 🤔

Comics lettering tip! Burst balloons often work best with straight tails. They lend a directness that complements the sharp nature of a yell.
