which is not to say that the ultra-rich are rich because they are smart, many of them are idiots who fell continually upwards in their lives. but that critical thinking and bare minimum investigative skills are necessary to defend oneself against the predatory digital infrastructures of the rich

class consciousness is impossible without literacy, and if not literacy than at least communities of learning. the exploitation of the serf and peasant class was facilitated for centuries by forced illiteracy. intellectualism cannot be the domain of the wealthy. learning is good. get a library card

in the absence of access to quality education, the internet should supplement learning by being a free repository of almost all human knowledge, but that ideal grows ever farther as the extreme monetization of all facets of digital culture (including the shoe-horning of AI) goes unchecked

we make a big hubbub in critical studies about society not being truly meritocratic and whatnot, but the fact that we are even able to receive a higher education that critiques that notion is indicative of many layers of privilege, for which education ideally serves as the great equalizer
