Rachel Gordan’s “Postwar Stories” explores the "anti-anti­semitism nov­els" of the mid 20th C., many of which were written by Jewish women like Lau­ra Z. Hob­son (“Gentleman’s Agreement, 1947), the subject of Gordan’s HBI Research Award. This work is a major contribution to mid 20th C. US history.

An HBI Scholar in Residence, Ayelet Brinn analyzed the role of “womenʼs content,” including advice columns, advertising and more, in the development of the American Yiddish press. By placing gender at the center of analysis, Brinn’s “A Revolution in Type” is an important rewriting of this history.
