Generic ballot averages. As of January 16, 2026, Democrats are at 45.69%, while Republicans are at 41.04%, meaning Democrats are up 4.64 points over Republicans at this time in the generic ballot.

The problem with centrist pundits is that their arguments almost entirely rely on their priors with little to no regard for the actual reality of the matter
YouGov/The Economist poll showing polling results for support/opposition to abolishing ICE. 46% support abolishing ICE, 43% oppose abolishing ICE, and 12% are not sure.

Quick little map I made: largest industry in each US county in terms of employment. Source is 2023 ACS 5-year estimates, table S2403.
Choropleth map showing largest industry by county in terms of civilian employment, from the 2023 American Community Survey. Much of the Midwest is dominated by the manufacturing industry, where in the Great Plains, agriculture dominates, and in many other areas healthcare and social assistance is the dominant industry. Many other industries also dot the map across various different counties, including but not limited to construction; professional, scientific, and technical services; educational services, retail trade, transportation and warehousing, accommodation and food services, mining, and public administration.

Also worth noting that all the surveys depicted focused on college students at elite universities; the graph also excludes two of the surveys included in the review but not included in this graph (HERI and CCES), which surveyed a broader pool of respondents and didn't find a significant change
