Even through his feelings, he understood one thing: after killing Mindfang he got another profit, it was respect from his team.

...being middleblood, powerful and strong to help lowbloods.He couldn't understand her fear of losing status, cause he hadn't even part of normal life. That's why he didn't understand her choice of being killed.

Summoner wasn't just inspired, he put all his life on fighting, and wasn't ready to change his main goal. Till he's live, he won't give up. Summoner could also wait from Mindfang too much: dreaming about she'll leave her benefits, status and previous life behind...

Also, there could be some other reasons:
• justify herself in her own eyes
• leave the troll who she was attrached to live and make him a "hero", who killed azureblooded troll, stronger than him

She was interested more in supporting her matesprit, than believing Summoner and his soldiers will win this cruel game. That's was the main reason, why she got killed by Summoner, talking more honestly, made him to kill her in war, with her powers.

So, finishing all this text with my thoughts:
Mindfang, being in more cruel and merciless trolls took they behavior some way, and didn't take idea of lowblood's mutiny seriously.

Summoner was always coming back to his mate, even if his ideas were radical. Mindfang's care made him believe in her love, and her love was true, even if it became in more friend way.
And not main part, but funny enough, I think they also could drink wine, beer and other stuff together.

Mindfang could treat Summoner like the "stupid lowblood" just of her experience, longer and more powerful. There's also could be possessive and some way "agressive" care to her matesprit, but not even close to hurt.

They both got attached to each other with time going far, and that's why Mindfang's death was logically in the end [she literally started a "lynch" to Redglare, but wow, death from bronzeblood?]. Also thoughts about how their connect could be shown from both sides:

First of all, little remind of the "reasons" for passion: it was fervor, "play", but with feelings.

Continuing this thoughts: Mindfang and Summoner chose the most profitable way to do with quad, leaving official "red".
The other way was dangerous to Summoner and painful for Mindfang: Mindfang should kill lowblood, who she "finished to play with".

Meanwhile quad with lowbloods, especially much lower in caste system, could be seen by others as the most humiliation. More humiliating could be only breaking quad with alive lowblood, cuz authority of highbloods, where Mindfang was trying to stay strong enough, could be questioned.

I think everything and everyone around gives enough pressure on having romantic quads, and shame trolls who don't have one, and, talking about Dualscar and Mindfang: quad with highbloods is the most comfortable and safe quad for reputation [highbloods grubs < lowbloods grubs].
